Windows are designed for different purposes and have different designs. Sometimes, the design of a window depends on where it will be installed to make sure its functions are maximized. Modern windows are usually covered with translucent materials or glazed to regulate the amount of light they let through. There are different types of windows like sliding windows, picture windows, fixed windows, tilt and turn windows, and many more. Windows can also be classified by the materials used to make them. One such classification would be wood windows.
Wood windows are light, attractive and a strong material. They are also moderately priced and can be designed into different arrays of shapes and profiles. As compared to other windows, wood windows last longer if taken care of regularly and they do not require a lot of attention. Wood windows are generally cheaper than other kinds of windows, too. The problem now comes in when you have to find the right style and type for your house among the numerous options and manufacturers available.
Some of the different types of windows include:-
Double-hung – able to slide up and down, vertically
Casement – open outward and are operated by a crank
Awning – open outward from the bottom, hinged at the top (commonly below stationary windows)
Sliding – one window slides horizontally over the other by sliding on a track
Hopper – hinged at the bottom, open downward and inward. Commonly used for ventilation purposes
Tilt and Turn – able to swing open from the side like a casement window or tilt open at the top like a hopper window using a single handle
Bay – protrude outward past the siding of the house, using a combination of different window types (usually a fixed window and 2 casement/double-hung windows)
Pivot – completely rotates either vertically or horizontally
Fixed – these windows are completely stationary (non-operable)
All these styles and designs will depend on the architecture of your house before they are installed. Before you make a choice, make sure you consult a professional to figure out the type of wood window and the design that best suits your home. Also, make sure your manufacturer is well experienced in that field. If possible, ask them for designs they have installed for other people and check them out to see the quality of work done.
